Time to roast

Very often the evening meal is the highlight of my day. In fact the joy is intensified by not having to rush the process. This evening we will be enjoying slow roasted chicken breast, baked beans corn on the cob, corn bread and for dessert chocolate cream pie.

Time for Jake

Tomorrow is Nick's birthday, but today it is/all about Jake.
New runners for the exercise boat, and a good little work out.
Last week Jake got a clean bill of health from the vet, so now it is time to rebuild the muscles he lost over the winter.
A few trips around the club with lots of rest, a good start. Nick hung back at the barn and protested, kicking and screaming.

Frost tonight?

The horses are in it looks like a cold wet evening.  I have one hell of a head cold, and i was just out in the rain, again.Glad the peas like the cold they just started to sprout. Time to write the menu for next week, even though I took the grilled cheese off tonight and made steak.change is good.

In a mood

When I take out all the pots and pans you know i'm in a mood. No grill cheese n chowder tonight. Steak ootatoes and carrots.
Fresh chives from the farm.

Day of "Rest"

Today I was home alone on the farm, a scheduled day of rest. The day started off very chilly I hustled about morning chores, then ran into town to drop off some dry cleaning and pick up a couple things. When I arrived home I was bone cold with the chills, so my solution was to bake. I made oat meal cookies and then tested out my new bread machine. When I say tested I mean this literally.  See I was at a local barn sale , when I spotted a bread machine.I have been wanting to purchase a bread machine, but was unwilling to spend the money. I looked over the barn sale bread machine and it was super clean. I asked the man hosting the sale if it worked, he was unsure. I asked him what he wanted for it and he said five dollars, I thought I could afford to chance it. Today I made sunflower bread and it worked like a charm. Once I had finished baking (and ironing) the sun was out and I did some gardening. Something about a full day to rest the mind that is good for the heart.

He Worked Very Hard

Nickel worked very hard this week end, spreading manure. 500 bushel 10 trips around the draft horse club garden.
This work would have been better suited for a team, but with time to rest Nick did a fine job-
